Housing disrepair complaints for Liverpool Housing Trust tenants
If you are a tenant in a Liverpool Housing Trust home, they have a legal duty of care to ensure that your home meets housing standards and is a safe place for your whole household to live. As a landlord, their legal responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to, ensuring that you have:
- A functioning heating system
- Safe access to electricity, gas and hot water
- Safe flooring and stairs
- Operational sanitary systems i.e. toilet, sinks, bath
So, for example, if your staircase bannister is not secure, or step treads are broken, it’s the responsibility of Liverpool Housing Trust to get the bannister, handrail and steps fixed so that you, and everyone else who lives with you, can safely navigate the stairs in your home.

Should I complain to Liverpool Housing Trust about disrepair in my home?
You should report any complaints or disrepair problems to Liverpool Housing Trust as soon as you notice the issue. You can call their repairs service 8am-8pm Monday-Friday and 8am-1pm on Saturdays on 0300 555 0131.
They claim to have five levels of category repairs and response times
- Non-urgent – they will provide tenants with an appointment time
- Emergency – they will aim to attend within 2 hours
- Urgent jobs – they aim to attend within 3 working days
- Routine repairs – they aim to attend within 10 working days
- Major repairs – they aim to fix the problem within 20 working days
What can I do if Liverpool Housing Trust haven’t fixed my repair complaint?
If you have reported your house complaint(s) to Liverpool Housing Trust and repairs have not been adequately made by the various timescales they have provided, you might be eligible to make a claim for compensation. If you, or any other members of your household, have become ill, or suffered in another way, as a result of the disrepair, or any of your belongings have been damaged because of the problem, you might also be able to claim for this.
