Staff at CEL Solicitors volunteered at Claire House – a children’s hospice for seriously and terminally ill children.
What is Claire House?
Staff members recently volunteered at Claire House Children’s Hospice in West Derby. Claire House is a children’s hospice which helps seriously, and terminally ill children experience an amazing quality of life with their families. The centre provides specialist nursing care and emotional support for families, bringing back a sense of normality within their lives.
Staff Volunteering
The day began with an extensive tour of the grounds, which was the former Carmelite Monastery, occupied for over 100 years by a closed order of nuns. Staff were taken through to the nuns living quarters, including bedrooms, a kitchen, piano room, and chapel.
The site opened back in 2018. Old contemplation rooms and libraries have been transformed into counselling rooms for families, and what was previously a kitchen storeroom is now a therapy room with a massage bed, moon lighting, and healing crystals. However, due to the pandemic, Claire House have unfortunately not been able to offer their full services as a hospice due to necessary works being stalled.
The journey continued with a tour of the garden, which staff helped to clear by raking leaves so that outdoor activities can take place.
Commenting on the day, Rebecca, a marketing executive at CEL Solicitors, said:
“It was such an enjoyable experience visiting Claire House. The tour was so insightful as it informed us of all the services that a children’s hospice provides.
Clearing the outdoor grounds was a great team-building exercise, as well as a genuinely rewarding activity knowing that it will benefit the children at the centre.”
How can I support Claire House?
The help of volunteers has been instrumental in the charity opening its doors, and Claire House are still in need of them. Be sure to visit the Claire House website, where plenty of fundraising and volunteering opportunities are available.
