We are over the moon to announce that CEL Solicitors’ owner and director, Jessica Hampson has been nominated for Legal Personality of the Year Award at the Women in Business Awards 2023.
Women in Business Awards 2023
Hosted by Downtown in Business, an award-winning business organisation in the North West and the West Midlands, the Women in Business Awards will celebrate the leading female business personalities from across the Liverpool City Region.
The winner will be announced on 10th March 2023, where the awards ceremony will take place at the Crown Plaza Hotel.
How Jessica Developed CEL Solicitors
Jessica is a female owner of female majority law firm, CEL Solicitors.
CEL’s mantra is ‘People Before Profits’, meaning that we invest in our clients and our staff. A happy working environment means a better, more efficient experience for all.
When setting up CEL Solicitors, Jessica wanted to create a dynamic work culture which reflected the values of the business. This is achieved by employing people who have real passion for the law and who embody the firm’s values of ‘People Before Profits’, ‘Celebrating Excellence in Law’ and ‘Gratitude is Our Attitude’.
Jessica’s main purpose for CEL is to provide a place where people can enjoy working – where their work is truly appreciated, and their efforts are rewarded. As CEL’s workforce expands, Jessica strives to preserve it’s unique family-like culture by hosting a monthly ‘Culture Club’ meeting. The Culture Club allows staff members to feed back to Jessica on what they’d like to see introduced or developed within the firm. Jessica genuinely values her employees’ opinions and allowing them to have this autonomy means that the culture at CEL can be an authentic and positive reflection of the people working here.

Jessica as a Legal Personality
Jessica is truly passionate about the law, professional development, and mentorship, and consistently champions staff in these three areas. Confidence training, team-building activities, keynote speeches, and book club are just a few initiatives available to staff at CEL Solicitors. Similarly, Jessica imparts her expertise as a lawyer and business owner by mentoring university students and CEL employees in her spare time.
A true advocate for women in business, Jessica hosts quarterly female empowerment sessions at CEL, where guest speakers will discuss topics such as equal pay, doulas, and mental health, to name a few.
More recently, Jessica has turned her hand to podcast hosting. The People Before Profits podcast features some of the most interesting voices in the country to get their thoughts on trending topics, social issues, and the legal sector. Guests include the likes of housing campaigner, Kwajo Tweneboa, business coach, Andrea Edwards, and CEL’s own staff.
Commenting on the award nomination, Jessica Hampson said:
“I’m delighted to be nominated for Legal Personality of the Year at the Women in Business Awards. It’s amazing to be recognised for my work as a big pink fluffy first-generation millennial lawyer.
I know and love some of the other nominees for this category, and to be considered is extremely humbling.
Best of luck to all the nominees!”
