There are thought to be around 6 million people in the UK unknowingly living with high blood pressure. A little under 10% of the population.
Each day, some 350 people suffer a preventable stroke or heart attack. To help combat this, it’s important that people understand the way their bodies work and recognise the invisible signs of distress before a serious incident strikes.
Know Your Numbers week takes place each September and aims to inspire people from across the UK to take part in a quick and simple health check.
While you can request a blood pressure test from your GP, pharmacist or practice nurse, etc., the process is simple and can be done without a medical expert from the comfort of your own home. You can use a basic blood pressure monitor to get your results anywhere and at any time.
You can find much more information by visiting bloodpressureuk.org where they even have a dedicated Know Your Numbers page.
Know Your Numbers – at CEL Solicitors
Staff at CEL Solicitors took part in Know Your Numbers week 2022, with special help from Nurse Prescriber, Rebecca. Over the course of the day, a large number of the CEL team took five minutes for a ‘personal health MOT’ session which included blood pressure and blood glucose checks.
Staff were so eager for checks that another session was booked in for more to participate!
Along with the MOT, Rebecca delivered a delightful talk to all those in the firm on the importance of knowing your numbers.
“You know your phone number, your PIN number, your bank accounts, your address, your postcode, your age, your date of birth and so on.. but so few people know about the numbers relating to their personal health”.
Everybody wants a healthy and happy life for themselves, their family and friends, and this easy test is one of the simplest ways to do so in under 5 minutes.
If your blood pressure is above or below the recommended level, there are really basic steps you can take to help get to a healthy range… But you can only do so if you Know Your Numbers.
