Following on from May’s Be the Standard event which saw Tony, Gavin and Tom in attendance, June’s event went even bigger!
In June, Sedulo celebrated its very first live full-day event, hosted at the Everyman cinema in Leeds. The event gathered together “some of the world’s best in business and sport” – each with very different and distinct backgrounds.
These speakers were invited to talk about what they’ve learned over their incredible careers and how they have worked to become their best selves.
The speakers:
- Peter Cowgill (Executive Chairman JD Sports)
- Jo Fairley (Co-founder Green & Black’s)
- Josh Warrington (IBF World Champion)
- Mike Bates (the Atlantic Grappler)
- Kevin Sinfield OBE (rugby league legend & Leicester Tigers coach)
- Jamie Jones-Buchanan (rugby league legend & Leeds Rhinos Rugby League Club manager)
- Jacey Normand (BBC broadcaster)
- Paul Cheetham-Karcz (Sedulo founder)
The occasion marked the first “Live” event from Sedulo, with the company hosting a much larger audience (160 attendees) for a jam-packed day with 4 different sessions.
CEL Solicitors members Jasmine and Ryan were among those in attendance.
Their thoughts on the event:
“I really enjoyed the talk by Peter Cowgill from JD. I just enjoyed listening to his insight into running such a major, worldwide, well-known company like JD. The fact he’s just a normal, working-class guy from Manchester is amazing.” – Ryan Beeley
“I enjoyed Mike Bates’s backstory, including his time in the military. I thought his approach to life was really interesting.” – Jasmine Stewart
“For me, the key takeaway was the importance of having MI (management information). Peter talked about how, when he was asked back to JD in the mid-2000s when the company was struggling, their MI was all over the place. They weren’t able to see which departments and stores were performing well and which ones weren’t. He said this was one of the things he changed immediately as he knew the company was losing money but didn’t have the data to see where from.” – Ryan
“I took away that if you really put your mind to it you can probably do anything. It was really inspiring to hear the different achievements of all the speakers, and how they got past their roadblocks.” – Jasmine
